Homeschool Day!

Capacity: 12 kids per session, each session is 90 minutes

Two Sides to the Story: Patriot or Loyalist? It wasn’t always easy to know what side to be on. Imagine that you are living in colonial America and wrestle with the tricky decision of deciding your stance. Will you decide to sign the Patriots oath of allegiance?

Each program is a 90 minute program
This is not a drop-off program. Parents must accompany children for the duration of the program.
Due to the historic nature of the buildings, the museum is not handicapped accessible.

Ghosts of Winter Street Cemetery Tours

The American Independence Museum invites you to join them at the Winter Street Cemetery to celebrate the waning light and autumn season. Your colonial guide will meet you at the Winter Street Cemetery where you will see the final resting place and the graves of many of Exeter’s famous and infamous revolutionary residents, hear their stories, and learn about this historic cemetery.

Families with elementary school age children are invited to join the 3:00 tour. Join us in your Halloween costume as we stroll the cemetery, discover stories of the past and receive a colonial treat!

Please note:

This event does not take place at the museum. Ample on-street parking is available at Winter Street Cemetery. This is an outdoor event held rain or shine. Please dress accordingly.

All tours are limited to 10 people and will be held exclusively outside.

Hand sanitizer will be provided at the entrance/exit point.
No public restroom available.
Sunset is at 5:45 pm. If you are on the 5:00 or 5:30 pm tour, please bring a flashlight.
The cemetery is on uneven ground. Please wear comfortable footwear and watch your step as you move through the cemetery.

von Trapp Brewing Kicks off Beer for History

Based in Stowe, VT, von Trapp Brewing will kick off Beer for History on Thursday, October 5 at Folsom Tavern (c. 1775) on the campus of the American Independence Museum (AIM) in downtown Exeter, NH.

Presented by Donahue Tucker & Ciandella, Beer for History is family-friendly and features music, trivia, and/or colonial tavern games with seating available both inside and outside the tavern. “It’s a wonderful way to experience history in a fun way that brings people of all ages together,” noted Jennifer Carr, AIM executive director.

Having previously participated in Beer for History on multiple occasions, von Trapp Brewing will pour three of their beers. These beers include Bohemian Pilsner, their award-winning interpretation of a Bohemian Style Pilsner, and Dunkel, the original dark lager of Munich and the first beer “style” born out of the German Beer Purity Law. von Trapp Brewing will also pour Stowe Style Festbier, their collaboration with Narragansett Brewing Company of Providence, Rhode Island, which represents the next offering in the Stowe Style series.

“We are thrilled to welcome von Trapp Brewing back to Beer for History,” added Carr. “Our shared love of history is what keeps our partnership going.”

Tickets for Beer for History events are $10, while youth (under 21) are free. Beer for History with von Trapp Brewing takes place from 6:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Thursday, October 5 at the American Independence Museum’s Folsom Tavern, 164 Water St., Exeter, NH.

Holiday Tavern Open House

Join us as we ring in the season, as Folsom Tavern will be decorated for the season to the public for a Holiday Tavern Open House, presented by M&T Bank.

At this event, we will feature hot beverages and snacks in addition to informal presentations about colonial drinks (coffee and tea).We will also have a gift shop set up within Folsom Tavern, so be prepared to do some shopping, too!
