Bringing History to Life

Initiative Overview

The initiative actively contributes to the vitality of historical understanding by supporting programs that vividly bring history to life. Events falling under this initiative serve as tangible examples of this commitment, with activities such as Storywalk, the American Independence Festival (drawing over 1,000 visitors), Spiritualism/Cemetery Tour, and Humanities To Go. Through these events, community members can engage with history in dynamic and immersive ways.

The Storywalk program, for instance, combines the joy of reading with a stroll through historical narratives in downtown Exeter, NH, making literature and history accessible in an outdoor setting. The American Independence Festival, with its substantial attendance, is a pivotal community gathering that not only commemorates historical milestones but also instills a sense of shared heritage among participants.

This initiative includes original research, exhibits, and collection care/stewardship. By fostering original research, the initiative contributes to expanding our understanding of local history. Exhibits curated with care serve as educational tools, visually narrating the historical journey of the community. Additionally, the commitment to collection care and stewardship ensures the preservation of historical artifacts, making them accessible for present and future generations.
